Thr!ve Dance Company came to us with this awesome idea to create custom Retro Hip-Hop dance costumes for their 10-12-year-old group. The goal was to coordinate the dance costumes with a Missy Elliot compilation mix. Though leotards are currently having a huge comeback, at the time this costume was created almost no one was wearing them. In creating this costume we wanted to pay tribute to the hip-hop video girls of the 90’s.

We felt that using a new, hip, die-cut fabric with underlying gold was a great pairing with the gold chain at the hip, as a nod to the gold chains and black clothes that early hip-hop artists wore. Other unique features of this piece include a die-cut black lycra with gold hologram lycra underneath and the chains across the front to add to the hip-hop reference.
